La creación del grupo de Medicina Respiratoria Traslacional y de Precisión (neumACt) se propone consolidar y ampliar sus investigaciones en patologías respiratorias, con el fin de mejorar el diagnóstico, el tratamiento y la atención de los pacientes con patología respiratoria,

Las enfermedades del aparato respiratorio constituyen una de las principales causas de morbimortalidad a nivel mundial y representan una carga sanitaria de primer orden en España y en Galicia. Patologías como la enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC), el asma grave, el cáncer de pulmón, la hipertensión pulmonar, las enfermedades pulmonares intersticiales difusas, la insuficiencia respiratoria crónica o los trastornos respiratorios del sueño afectan a millones de personas, con un enorme impacto sobre la calidad de vida, la capacidad funcional y la supervivencia de los pacientes.

El Servicio de Neumología del Complexo Hospitalario Universitario de A Coruña (CHUAC) da cobertura a una población superior a 550.000 habitantes, actuando además como centro de referencia autonómica para determinadas patologías de alta complejidad como el trasplante pulmonar, la hipertensión pulmonar arterial y las enfermedades pulmonares intersticiales difusas. El Servicio de Cirugía Torácica del CHUAC, integrado en el grupo de investigación, ejerce además de su liderazgo nacional en el trasplante pulmonar, como referente quirúrgico para las áreas sanitarias de Lugo y Ferrol, ampliando significativamente la base poblacional y clínica del grupo. Ambos servicios comparten actividad en una unidad de trasplante pulmonar multidisciplinar que acumula más de 1.000 trasplantes realizados, una de las series más relevantes del panorama nacional. Esta posición privilegiada, junto con la colaboración con profesionales de Atención Primaria del área sanitaria, proporciona al grupo una base clínica y poblacional excepcional para el desarrollo de investigación traslacional de alta calidad.

El Grupo de Investigación en Enfermedades Respiratorias está integrado por neumólogos, cirujanos torácicos y personal de apoyo del Servicio de Neumología del CHUAC, junto con un médico de Atención Primaria, lo que garantiza una visión integral del paciente respiratorio desde la atención comunitaria hasta los procedimientos más complejos.
